Polish writers

The Polish Writers’ Association’s tradition refers to the tradition of the Trade Union of Polish Writers established in 1920 from the initiative of Stefan Żeromski, as well as to the activities of the literary circles in Poland and abroad, taken up in defence of the dnity and soverenty of national literature, human rhts, and the freedom of expression. The statute of the Polish Writers’ Association states that the institution was “made up of writers maintaining independent literary and cultural life during martial law and after the unlawful dissolution of the Union of Polish Writers in 1983.”The registration of the PWA took place in 1989, and the official founding convention of the Association was held in Warsaw on May 31, 1989.
